About Us

Welcome to the Old Dominion University Collegiate Chapter of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). This is a professional organization for future and current music educators. NAfME is among the world's largest art education organizations and it is the only association that addresses all aspects of music education. The organization was founded in 1907 and since then has worked to ensure that every student has a well- balanced, comprehensive, and high-quality program of music instruction taught by qualified teachers. Our chapter fosters professional development opportunities through workshops, conference attendance to VMEA, and the Old Dominion hosted Southern Virginia Regional NAfME conference. We also serve as a community out-reach program to the existing music education programs in the area by presenting ensembles within local music classrooms, facilitating activities such as instrument petting zoos, masterclasses, and many other activities. We welcome all students that are currently pursuing or interested in pursuing a degree in music education.
