Although framed as a leadership session, the discussion directly aligns with Tau Alpha Pi’s mission of recognizing academic excellence while encouraging a lifelong commitment to learning, responsibility, and professional integrity. Drawing on his experience in technically demanding, high-accountability environments, Portelli will explore how leadership emerges when strong scholarship is paired with judgment, discipline, and ownership of outcomes.
Tau Alpha Pi members may find particular relevance in discussions around:
- Translating academic excellence into professional responsibility
- Leadership grounded in competence, rigor, and ethical judgment
- Accountability for technical decisions that affect systems and people
- Lifelong learning as a leadership obligation, not just a credential
- Viewing leadership as stewardship of knowledge and standards
The session is discussion-oriented and intellectually grounded. While informed by national service and cyber operations experience, the principles apply directly to engineering technology careers, applied engineering roles, industry leadership, research, and professional practice—especially where credibility and responsibility matter more than title.
The event is free and open to students. Members may register directly using the link below: https://odu.campusgroups.com/MonarchsLEAD/rsvp_boot?id=2270155
