Good Morning SVA Members,
We hope you’re all doing well and staying on top of the semester.
Following our recent SVA poll regarding the proposed change from 16-week to 8-week online courses, the Mace & Crown (ODU’s student newspaper) has expressed interest in speaking directly with some of our members. Their goal is to better understand how this proposed change could affect student veterans and to accurately represent the range of opinions within our community.
We would especially appreciate hearing from:
-
Members who are currently transitioning out of the service, as these changes may significantly affect your adjustment to academic life.
-
Students with disabilities, who may experience additional challenges with shorter semester timelines.
-
Students who support the proposed change, particularly those who feel the new format could help them complete their degrees faster or find it beneficial for their schedules.
If you are willing to speak with the Mace & Crown Editor-in-Chief on behalf of Veteran Students and the SVA to share your experiences, insights, or concerns—whether in support of, opposed to, or neutral about the new format—please email:
📧 Luis Macias, SVA Vice President

Your participation is completely voluntary, and all viewpoints are welcome. This is an excellent opportunity to help highlight how proposed academic changes may impact our student veteran community and ensure that our voices are represented in upcoming discussions.
Thank you for your time, input, and continued support of our mission.
Respectfully,
Luis A. Macias
