We are approaching the middle of the semester and we hope you all have been staying happy and healthy. We have a lot of very exciting events/activities coming up this month. Below is a schedule of upcoming events and important information for the month of October. We look forward to hearing from you all!
October Upcoming Events:
October 9th - Political Action Party: This Friday, October 9th, from 7:30-9pm there will be a "Political Action Party" taking place over Zoom. The purpose is to join with other SVEA-Aspiring Educators and think of ways to promote political action within our career fields. There will be trivia, exciting presentations, and a prize raffle. If interested in attending, please fill out this form.
October 9th - NEA Webinar: This webinar will take place from 9-11 pm on Friday, October 9th, and is free of charge. The webinar will focus on dealing with anger, bias, and trauma. Upon completion, you will receive a certificate and by attending, this can fulfill a professional development requirement for stoles. To register for the event, click here.
October 15th - General Board Meeting : Our second general meeting will be on Thursday, October 15th, from 12:30-1:15 pm. We will be joined by ODU’s very own Jody Sommerfeldt, Senior Lecturer & Undergraduate Program Director. She will provide us with information regarding teaching licensure, testing information, and other various program requirements. To register for the event on Monarch Groups, click here.
October 20th - Halloween Social: On Tuesday, October 20th, we will be having a Halloween Social from 12:30-1:15 pm over Zoom. We will be having games, surprises and other cool activities, so you don’t want to miss it.
Ongoing Events and Information:
ÔùÅ Aspiring Educators of Color Caucus: "The purpose of this caucus is to recruit, cultivate, and develop diverse aspiring educators.Through proper recruitment and cultivation, the development of these aspiring educators will lay the foundation for the support and preparation needed to increase the underrepresentation of educators of color in the education field."
Membership is free this year, so we implore you to take advantage and join this organization to gain access to a multitude of opportunities and network with aspiring educators around the country. ÔùÅ National Education Association Webinars: The NEA will be providing free webinars to attend that will equip students with knowledge and tools to master education/teaching in a virtual space. These webinars will be extremely helpful to those who will be entering the career field soon and will count towards professional development for stole requirements.

Committee Opportunities:
- Halloween Social Committee - We need help planning the Halloween Social. If you are interested in joining, please fill out this form.
- Website Committee - We also need a committee to work on our club’s website. If interested, please fill out this form.
- Read Across America Day (RAAD) Committee - We are looking for people to help plan, set-up, and work this event. You will receive volunteer hours and it will help fulfill some of the stole requirements. If interested, please fill out this form.
