Welcome Back, HSA — Spring 2026 Updates & Upcoming Events

Dawn Timms - Monday, January 19
 Events
Good evening Human Services Association Members,

I hope you all enjoyed your winter break, whether you celebrated Christmas, another holiday, or simply took time to rest. This break has been a busy one for me, and I took as much of a mental pause as possible while also managing several personal family matters. I truly appreciate your understanding and patience.

As we step into the spring semester, I want to welcome you all back and share that we already have several plans in motion. A quick update: our January 3rd United by Warmth event was canceled due to the winter break and the likelihood that many students would be away. Thank you for your understanding.

Our United by Warmth event scheduled for February 7th is still planned to move forward. The only exception would be inclement weather, and any changes will be communicated as we monitor the weekly forecasts. We would like to remind everyone that all donations are accepted except for furniture. Our donation and volunteer site will be located at:

Village Parking Lot #2
4301 Hampton Blvd
Norfolk, VA 23508
United States
Time: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

This is a community event, and we warmly welcome both students, faculty and local community members to donate items or volunteer their time for a meaningful cause. Especially during this time of year, blankets, clothing, and shoes are very much needed and deeply appreciated.

We respectfully ask all students to spread the word to their friends, family, and neighbors so we can make the greatest impact together.

We are also working on several Spring 2026 events, including partnering again with Professor Hughes for the HMSV Addiction Education Orientation, just as we successfully did in the fall.

In addition, we are coordinating an event with the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore, which will offer a meaningful opportunity for service and community engagement.

I have reached out to SET to request a table in the Webb Center so we can sell our Human Services “You Matter” Wellness Bags—the mental health bags we created in December. This location will help increase visibility and bring greater awareness to the Human Services Association and our mission.

We are still awaiting approval for our participation in the Spring 2026 Student Organization Fair, a wonderful opportunity to recruit new members and promote our organization. Once confirmation is received, I will share all event details with you.

Please continue to watch for upcoming announcements as our spring events are finalized.

Our weekly Motivation Monday series will begin on February 2nd.

Here’s to a wonderful and prosperous 2026 New Year. I’m excited for all that we will accomplish together this semester.

Respectfully,
Dawn Timms
