2026 SCL Leadership Awards - Career Ready Monarch Award 

 

As part of the Monarch community, we benefit from the vibrancy created by student leaders. Each year, we can recognize outstanding Monarchs who have contributed to the ODU community through their engagement on campus. Please take the time to recognize our campus leaders by completing a nomination.

Career-Ready Monarch Award

The Career-Ready Monarch Award celebrates exceptional students who exemplify holistic growth and outstanding preparation for future professional endeavors. This award recognizes individuals who demonstrate a commitment to developing and applying the NACE Career Readiness Competencies through their academic, co-curricular, and professional experiences. Recipients of this award serve as role models in their dedication to self-improvement, collaboration, and contributing meaningfully to their communities and future industries. 

 

Criteria for Selection: 

Candidates for the Career Ready Monarch Award will be evaluated based on their demonstrated excellence in the following areas: 

  1. Career & Self-Development 
    • Actively seeks out and engages in professional development opportunities. 

    • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous personal and professional growth. 

  2. Critical Thinking/Problem Solving 
    • Identifies and analyzes complex issues and develops effective solutions. 

    • Applies creativity and resourcefulness in academic, workplace, or community settings. 

  3. Oral/Written Communication 
    • Excels in articulating ideas clearly and effectively in various formats and audiences. 

    • Produces professional and impactful written content. 

  4. Teamwork/Collaboration 
    • Demonstrates a strong ability to work effectively within diverse teams. 

    • Contributes to team goals with a collaborative and inclusive approach. 

  5. Technology 
    • Effectively leverages digital tools and technologies to achieve goals. 

    • Demonstrates proficiency in utilizing digital platforms for professional or academic purposes. 

  6. Leadership 
    • Inspires and motivates others while fostering an inclusive environment. 

    • Takes initiative and demonstrates responsibility in leadership roles. 

  7. Professionalism/Work Ethic 
    • Displays integrity, reliability, and accountability in all endeavors. 

    • Exhibits a professional attitude and work ethic in academic, extracurricular, or employment settings. 

  8. Equity & Inclusion 
    • Actively promotes equity and inclusion through actions, advocacy, or service. 

    • Demonstrates cultural competence and values diverse perspectives.
