2022 First-Year Summer Institute (FSI) Student Application

First-Year Summer Institute
Student Application
First-year Summer Institute (FSI) is a three-day intensive leadership program for incoming ODU students held during the summer (transfer students are welcome). FSI builds on the leadership skills of our new students and provides them with a jump-start to becoming acclimated to campus. The students engage with faculty, staff, and current student leaders. The four sessions include varied experiences to match participants' interests; for instance, students in Session I will engage in leadership and service activities, Session II will engage in recreation and wellness activities, Session III includes global perspectives with a lens for inclusion, and Session IV will include specific resources for students with intended majors in the College of Sciences. All participants are connected with resources for leadership engagement on campus, research, and opportunities to explore career paths.
Freshman Summer Institute (FSI) is scheduled for:

FSI session 1: Get Engaged in Campus Life & Service
July 19-21

FSI session 2 : Stay Active in Rec & Wellness as Moving Monarchs
July 26-28

FSI session 3 : IMPACT ODU as Global Leaders
August 3-5

FSI session 4 : Start Your Journey to Success in the Sciences (For students pursuing majors in the College of Sciences)
Aug 9-11

Participants are on track as Monarch Leaders and are encouraged to continue their pathway to developing leadership via Monarchs LEAD, ODU's Comprehensive Leadership Program.

Students who participate in FSI are more likely to graduate from ODU!
