Emerging Monarchs

The Emerging Monarchs program is a Fall leadership experience that lays the foundation for successful student leaders at Old Dominion University. The program focuses on individual strengths and talents as we work together for a smooth transition into student leadership on ODU's campus. The program includes leadership workshops, opportunities to connect with other student leaders and faculty, and an overnight retreat. During the fall semester, students have an ongoing opportunity to connect and form meaningful relationships with each other, as they are also exposed to valuable resources to support their academic and co-curricular journey.

Students are encouraged to continue their leadership development by continuing to engage in ongoing leadership workshops offered throughout the Fall and Spring semester on Wednesday at noon.

Participants interested in applying for the program must be able to commit to the following requirements:
  • Pay a $20 Commitment Fee (covers all expenses and transportation)
  • Attend in-person Emerging Monarchs meetings on the following Tuesdays from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm
    • September 9
    • September 23
    • October 28
    • November 11
  • Attend virtual Leadership Lecture Series sessions on Wednesdays at noon
  • Participate in an off-campus overnight retreat on November 1st-2nd. All expenses are covered by the commitment fee, and transportation is provided

Graduates of the program are among the brightest Student Leaders at the university, and they are given priority to return as a 'Peer Coach' for the next class of Emerging Monarchs and First-Year Summer Institute (FSI) participants.
