Mission The Environmental Justice Club (EJC) is a student-led organization at Old DominionUniversity that aims to mitigate the climate crisis with climate action by creating asafe and accessible space for the Monarch community to talk and learn more aboutvarious interlocking issues of environmental justice, such as Indigenous sovereignty,Black liberation, ecosystem preservation, reproductive healthcare access, and cleanwater access, among many others. In order to imagine and work towards solutions for healing our collective future, theEJC understands the importance of addressing the ongoing causes and increasinglydestructive effects of climate change. Our programming and events center and upliftthe voices of Black & Indigenous people of color (BIPOC)ÔÇöwho are often the mostimpacted by the effects of the climate crisis while also often being the mostunderrepresented. We do this to promote a fuller understanding of how climatechange is affecting people of all walks of life, in all corners of the worldÔÇöincludingours. We recognize that we are all at different comfort levels when it comes to discussingthe climate crisis. While we hold space for all of us to be imperfect human beings, webelieve that we can each do our part in making the world a better place while alsofurther educating ourselves together. Members of the EJC will have manyopportunities throughout the academic year to engage in climate action and respondto current environmental issues in meaningful ways such as through participating inlocal clean-ups, attending educational workshops, creating environmentaljustice-oriented art, practicing talking about climate change in facilitated groupdiscussions, actively listening to the stories and perspectives of other club membersand guest speakers, and connecting with climate change organizers and activists inthe larger community.
